The Inter-Company Marketing Group was started in 1985 with about a dozen insurance companies that were doing business through joint ventures. The group continued to meet each year, was incorporated as a 501(c)(6) nonprofit association, and has grown to include several hundred financial services marketing executives from over 200 companies.Membership was originally restricted to employees of legal reserve insurance companies; since 1998 others involved in financial services strategic alliances have been eligible to join and share in the exchange as Associate Members. In 2002, the Associate and Regular Member categories were combined so that all individuals involved in or associated with financial services strategic alliances could join, participate, vote, and serve on the ICMG Board as equal members.
Affairs of the Inter-Company Marketing Group are managed and directed by its Board of Directors, elected from the membership. Ongoing business is conducted through the Board's elected officers and appointed staff and committees.
