Inter-Company Marketing Group (ICMG) 2010 Annual Meeting
Adds Washington Update to Address Political Issues

ASHBURN, VA (February 1, 2010) - The Inter-Company Marketing Group (ICMG), the trade association devoted to fostering strategic alliances in the insurance and financial services marketplace, announced that its 2010 annual meeting will include a "What's Happening In Washington" panel discussion on hot issues such as health care reform.

The panel will be held Thursday, February 11, 2010 during the ICMG annual meeting in Tucson, Arizona at the Westin La Paloma Resort and Spa.

Speakers are:

  • Gary Jacobs, senior vice president, corporate development, for Universal American Corp. (NYSE: UAM)
  • David Gencarelli, president, Gencarelli Group
  • Merrill Matthews, Ph.D., executive director, Council for Affordable Health Insurance and resident scholar, Institute for Policy Innovation

"Politics is affecting the life/health/benefits industry as much as ever," noted ICMG president Anne Marie Faria, who is executive vice president of Health Plan Services, Tampa, Florida. "ICMG added this panel to our annual meeting to address what's happened and what's expected to happen in Washington-and how our members in the life/health/benefits world might be affected.

"Capitol Hill is reaching an intense level on health care reform, the estate tax is once again under scrutiny, and life insurance is facing possible taxation," Faria added. "With these and other issues front and center in 2010, the Washington update panel will give ICMG members the opportunity to hear insights and ask questions about how Congress and the White House might change the insurance industry this year."

Jacobs, who develops strategic relationships for Universal American, is responsible for government affairs and corporate development. Serving as founder and president of CHCS Services prior to its acquisition in 2000 by Universal American, Jacobs positioned that company as the leading third-party administrator focusing on senior market products. Universal American, through its subsidiaries, offers benefit plans. The company is the second-largest Medicare Part D prescription drug plan sponsor, the eighth-largest Medicare Advantage sponsor, and the third-largest private fee-for-service plan sponsor.

Principal of the Gencarelli Group since 1993, Gencarelli provides independent representation to firms and associations whose interests include life and health insurance, federal taxation, Medicare reimbursement, and appropriations. His background includes serving as legislative assistant to Senator Paula Hawkins of Florida; director of Congressional affairs at the U.S. Customs Service; and vice president and general counsel for a national trade association. In addition to other clients, he is currently providing legislative counsel to Guardian Life Insurance Co. for life insurance regulatory activity.

Matthews is a public policy analyst specializing in health care issues, and is the author of numerous studies in health policy and other issues. National Journal recognized the Council for Affordable Health Insurance as one of the most effective health policy organizations in Washington. He is past president of the Health Economics Roundtable for the National Association for Business Economics, the largest trade association of business economists. His work has been published in books, journals and newspapers, including The Wall Street Journal, Investor's Business Daily, Barron's, USA Today and the Washington Times, and Forbes. His commentary runs daily on Sirius XM Satellite Radio.
